Boost Hydration With Natural IV Wellness Treatments
Those who call the Valley home during the summer months are a hardy bunch. While there is the “shut the door and wait it out” contingent, there are just as many people who relish the heat, or at least tolerate it, to enjoy outdoor activities even as the average high hits the triple digits. Whichever camp you fall into, there’s one thing year-rounders have in common—the need to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Extreme temperatures and low humidity levels affect everyone.
Fresh Water Is Excellent, But It’s Not the Only Thing
So how much is enough? And does only water count? The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined an adequate daily fluid intake for men is about 15.6 cups a day—just shy of one gallon. For women, it’s around 11.5 cups. That’s for healthy, sedentary people in temperate zones. People who are physically active or live in hot climates need to take in more. Regularly active individuals who are continually exposed to hot weather often have daily total fluid needs of 25 cups or more.
While pure, clean drinking water is the gold standard, there are many other ways to augment one’s fluid intake, such as electrolyte-enhanced water, oral rehydration solutions, coconut water, herbal tea and milk. A surprising number of fruits and vegetables can add to your daily tally, too, such as cucumbers, lettuce, celery, tomatoes, watermelon, strawberries and cantaloupe. All are more than 90 percent water, and there’s a whole produce section of others that are close. Generally, healthy people take in about 80 percent of their daily fluids from beverages and 20 percent from food.
The trick, especially in sizzling climates like the Arizona desert, is to sip nourishing liquids throughout the day and incorporate as many water-saturated foods into your diet as you can manage. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty. Avoid excess alcohol, sugary drinks and salt, all of which contribute to dehydration. And if you start to notice fatigue, dizziness, headache or dark-colored urine, rehydrate promptly.
IV Wellness Treatments Increase Hydration, Too
IV wellness treatments are also gaining ground as a way to boost hydration while replenishing the body with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and nutrients. Infusions are injected directly into the bloodstream for faster absorption. Popular blends include:
- Myers Cocktail – A well-known IV therapy that contains a mix of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, B vitamins, calcium and magnesium to boost immune function, improve energy, lessen fatigue, alleviate migraines and, of course, promote hydration.
- Glutathione – For those seeking to build immunity, decrease inflammation and maintain and glowing complexion, IV treatments infused with natural glutathione protects cells against oxidative stress.
- NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) – This coenzyme, found in every cell in the body, is essential to overall health. NAD wellness treatments support energy production, brain health, athletic recovery and metabolic balance and can be administered in several ways (e.g. IV, oral, subcutaneous injections, nasal spray) depending on your goals and preferences:
