How are the latest advancements in biologic therapy used?
Biologic therapy is a simple, non-surgical outpatient procedure, Dr. Wolff carefully injects
the injured area of the body using either fluoroscopically guided x-ray or ultrasound to ensure accuracy of needle tip placement and to maximize your safety and comfort. Light, conscious, sedation is available when requested at our state-of-the-art surgery center. Once injected, the highly concentrated nutrients and proteins start to work on a cellular level and begin to:
- reduce inflammation
- initiate repair of the affected cells
- stimulate the production (regeneration!) of new healthy tissue
What are the benefits?
Relieved to avoid the need for invasive surgery, our patients have reported many benefits with biologic therapy. Compared to traditional treatments such as steroids, narcotics or surgery, biologic therapy is natural, regenerative and non-toxic. There is minimal risk of rejection or infection with safe, image-guided injections. Results may be noticed after several weeks but often continue to improve for 3-6 months before full benefit is achieved. Recognizing that everyone’s injury and healing process is different, treatment plans are individually tailored for each patient to achieve optimal results.
Ask Questions
As with any newer treatment, patients can understandably wonder about their efficacy, benefits and risks. Clinical studies have shown that biologic therapy stimulates a faster and more complete repair of various conditions, ultimately resulting in a patient’s ability to function with less pain and return to an active life style. Don’t hesitate to ask Dr. Wolff during your consultation appointment and he will be happy to educate and answer all your questions.
