This 3 March 2026 study published in the Journal of Anesthesiology and Pain Therapy adds meaningful clinical support to the growing body of evidence surrounding HIFEM (high-intensity focused electromagnetic therapy) combined with synchronized radiofrequency for accelerating recovery, improving musculoskeletal pain and enhancing functional outcomes.
The study reviewed the self-reported questionnaires of 57 patients after receiving 4 EMSculpt neo® treatments once/week for 4 weeks. The authors evaluated pain and discomfort outcomes in both the upper and lower extremities rather than solely focusing on the aesthetics or muscle toning. There was no randomized study design but the outcome indicates efficacy of EMSculpt neo® treatment on reducing pain and discomfort in the lower/upper extremities:
-
93% of patients reported the treatment area felt better post-treatment
-
77% of patients indicated reduced discomfort in the treated area
-
75% of patients experienced reduced pain in the treated area
-
88% of subjects oerceived the treatment as comfortable
As an experienced physiatrist of 30 years, my primary goal is restoring function and improving movement quality without invasive procedures. This study aligns with what I'm seeing in my practice with patients that have a series of EMSculpt neo® sessions.
